RSS Feeds Sunday, June 30, 2013
Eisaman training grad Fiftyshadesofhay made it two graded wins in a row with a powerful 3 1/2-length victory in the $200,000 Iowa Oaks (G3) for 3-year-old fillies at Prairie Meadows Racetrack June 29.

Fiftyshadesofhay won the Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) at Pimlico Race Course in her previous start May 17.

Ridden with plenty of confidence by Martin Garcia, Fiftyshadesofhay was just a couple lengths off the lead in the early stages. Garcia began to edge closer to the front at that point, was in full command with a two length lead at the top of the lane, the drew further clear in the stretch. The final time for the 1 1/16-miles was 1:44.65.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Fiftyshadesofhay won for the fourth time in 10 career starts to push her earnings to $612,490. Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, Fiftyshadesofhay is by Pulpit out of the Real Quiet mare Quiet Kim.

She is owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman, who bought her for $175,000 out of the 2011 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

Fiftyshadesofhay broke her maiden in her fourth start last fall at Hollywood Park, and this year won the Santa Ysabel S. (G3) and finished second and third, respectively, behind Beholder in the Las Virgenes S. and Santa Anita Oaks (both Grade 1 events).
