I’m Mom’s Favorite won a head-bob to take the $100,000 Ms. Preakness Pink Warrior S. for 3-year-old fillies Friday at Pimlico Race Course, giving the Eisaman training grad her first stakes win in her fifth lifetime start.

The 4-5 choice, I'm Mom's Favorite was near the back of the eight-horse field for the first quarter mile. The bay filly began to make up ground while well wide around the turn. Making up some four lengths in the final furlong, I’m Mom’s Favorite held off another late closer, Flattering Bea, to win by a nose in 1:12.51 for the six furlongs.

The winner is based at the Fair Hill Training Center in the stable of Tony Dutrow and won for the third time in five lifetime starts. In her only prior stakes start, she was third in the $100,000 Cicada S. at Aqueduct in March.

“When I watched the race, it was uncharacteristic of how she had run before,” said trainer Tony Dutrow. “She got herself out of the race and she finished up well. After listening to Sheldon, he chose to ride her that way. He felt that she was very good the whole way around there.”

“Having run her four or five times you have an expectation when the gates open. Sheldon was very confident and comfortable with it, but she had never run that way before so I wasn’t.”

“We got off to a really rough start. I was a bit surprised having the filly so far back, but she handled it fine,” added rider Sheldon Russell. “When I tipped her out at the top of the stretch, she came running. When I hit the front, I don’t know if she got a little bit lost or what. I just tried to keep her focused and I was lucky to just hold on.”

Owned by Charles Zacney's CJZ Racing Stable, I'm Mom's Favorite has now bankrolled $138,940. Zacney purchased his filly for $150,000 at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Spring 2-year-old sale.
